Songs I can't stop listening to: A music blog
I am hearing some damn good music, lately. Want to hear?"Juliet" - Royal Wood
Okay, I heard this song for the first time months and months ago, put it on my "MUST DOWNLOAD" list and just never got around to it. So, I heard it again a few days ago and suddenly decided that I couldn't live without it. This is one of those "creeper" songs. The first time you hear it, it doesn't sound like anything special, but the more you listen to it, the more you fall in love with it. After about three listens, you can't stop singing it. Suddenly, you realize you freaking love it. It's weird. The video, on the other hand, will make you cry if you're the sensitive type. I'm always leery whenever someone says, "It'll make you cry." because it usually doesn't happen, but I read a tissue warning with this video and it was true - this one did make my eyes sweat...
Just don't ask me what's up with the girl's hair in the video. I don't know either.
"Bloodline" - Monkey Swallows the Universe
One of my new favorite songs. I love this one! It's not one of those super-interesting story-telling videos, but it's the song you should hear. Not every song I love has a music video. That's the thing with indie music. You can find it, get hooked on it, and then sometimes you can't buy it anywhere or even find a suitable link for friends to check it out. I've looked all over the freaking internet for these next ones - If you liked the above songs, you may like these, as well:
Tickets to Crickets - Ferraby Lionheart
I love this one so much that the piano part throughout is actually the ringer on my cell phone, now. This is one of those songs that I've been listening to for about six months or so, now, and just haven't gotten remotely sick of it, yet. Put it on your ipod. Listen repeatedly. Smile.Big City Boy - Kyler England
If you like country, here is one for you. Kyler isn't totally country. She's a cool blend of country/pop that those who hate country but love pop or hate pop, but love country can stomach. She has an amazing voice and the world has just got to take notice of her because she's amazing. Check this one, out. I had to link this one, myself, because I couldn't find it anywhere else on the net.Flawless - Kyler England
This is a pop ballad...but damnit, it's so beautiful and her voice is so amazing that I can't help being giddy over it. Another one I had to link myself because I couldn't find it anywhere.Devil Girl - Wotlie
If you like infectious beats, surly boys with accents, and first lines like: "She makes me feel like sh*t!" then you're in luck. This is a dance track combined with rock and it's addictive in a weird sort of way. If you don't want to dance to it, then you must be lacking a heartbeat.God Demo You - Pseudokiss Masochist
My dark secret is that I love, love, love dark industrial electronica. I used to be a club girl, years ago, and liked going to this industrial/trance club called 'The Warehouse' all the time in Cincinnati. People known to go there were supposed to be freaks. I actually liked dancing with the freaks. The freaks had some of the best dance music out there. This track is a free .mp3 from Garageband.com...which means this is from an emerging artist...and it's my opinion that it's damn good. If you like industrial, darkcore, etc. Try this one on.Know How - Kings of Convenience
I don't know why I like this one so much...except for the fact that it reminds me of one of those ads for some exotic island vacation package. Maybe I'll make a "mix tape" of island music...and this will be on it along with Jason Mraz's 'I'm Yours'.Mercy - Band of Annuals
Freaking awesome acoustic ballad that fans of Iron & Wine might like...or anyone who loves guys and guitars (in combination, of course). It's a minamalist track, well-sung, with the line, "I'm missing Kentucky" which sold me on the song, of course! Another one I couldn't find anywhere so had to link it.Beer - Jeff Mallon
Okay, I have to include this one for the silliness factor. It's catchy, though! Handclaps, lyrics about a group of underage kids trying to score some beer. It's just a funny song. I can picture a bunch of kids standing around daring each other to go ask the guy down the street to buy them some beer so they can look cool. "Dude! Just go up and ask...", "Not askin! You ask him!" It's the ultimate party song.Fiero - Officer Roseland
While we are on silly songs, I will have to hand you this one. Blaine and I LOVE this song! It starts off with a heavy intro that sounds like the beginning of a hard-hitting rock song and then it goes into....disco? And then...it shifts gears again...It's a musical roller coaster. This group is known for their goofiness and I love them. The song's name is 'Fiero' for Christ's sake. I LOVE the latter half of the song. I love it all. Check them out at www.officerroseland.com - They have another song I love on there, too, called 'Juggler's Despair'. This is the craziest stuff you'll ever hear.Get Through This - Art of Dying
This is one for fans of good rock songs. I like listening to this one when weightlifting. It's also got some really motivational lyrics: "If I can get through this, I can get through anything". Not only that, it's a damn good song and the artist is offering it as a free .mp3. You can't beat that.Dress Blues - Jason Isbell
Another one for country fans or Marines. It's a somber song that I introduced my husband to a while back. The artist wrote it about a friend that was killed in the Iraq war. It's a good song - more kleenex please!I guess that's about enough, for now. If you like big music blogs introducing you to new music, let me know. I can do this more often. I am such a music whore and am always finding free .mp3's and good stuff all over the internet. I have a soft spot for musicians, too, being that my dad was one...and I'm aspiring. These days, you have to fight to get heard with all the music out there. I hope you check some of these artists out, further.
Oh yeah - don't forget! My favorite show in the world, Scrubs, is on tonight at 9 p.m. on ABC. Long story short, NBC didn't give a rat's behind about the show and just wanted to get rid of it. ABC knew a gem of a show when they saw it and told NBC they would love to take the show off their hands. Finally! We have a new season after having to watch syndicated re-runs over and over again. It's an absolutely hysterical show. Think 'Family Guy' but not animated...and with doctors if you haven't seen it or just haven't gotten attached to it, yet.
And for anyone wondering, goshdarnit, YES - I have already gotten addicted to 'The Bachelor' yet again even though every year I say I'm not going to. I've also been enjoying laughing at the trashfest called 'Momma's Boys' on NBC where they seem to have gathered every former Playboy model looking for a job and crammed them onto one show. It's one big, trashy love fest....but still not as bad as anything you would see on MTV or VH-1, two networks I want nothing to do with anymore.
I'll resume Okinawa-talk later. I've got months of sleeping, eating, and breathing my move so I'm pacing myself - lol. Thanks to those of you who replied to that last post! I will definitely answer each response personally, later because I was really overwhelmed by all the good information! I didn't realize so many people had been stationed there and that makes me feel better. I feel like I can throw out those silly questions and know I'm not being laughed at.
Okay, well I'm off to put the kids down for a nap and get some lunch!
